Local boys do well

in free throw basketball

competition

On January 22, a number of kids from the Oyen/Acadia Valley area travelled to Acadia Valley where the Knights of Columbus sponsored the first round of the Basketball Free Throw competition. The Knights of Columbus gave these kids an opportunity to compete, travel and meet new friends. Much appreciation to the group in Acadia Valley who put on a wonderful lunch during the competition there.

The top three in each age category were eligible to go on to the district level held in Medicine Hat on February 6. Competitors qualifying from the district were: Kurtis McBain, Brandie Kukura, Bailey Ecklund, Nadizna Manalang and Joel and Adam Hanewich.

On March 26, Kurtis, Joel and Adam travelled to Lethbridge where they competed at the regional level.
Kurtis placed third in the 10-year-old boys with 14 out of 25 baskets. Adam placed second in 14-year-old boys with 13 out of 25 baskets.

This gave both boys the opportunity to free throw for the provincial level competition which will be calculated at a later date.
